Good music! Sound almost like Blade Runner them.
Cheers Bob. It’s based on that lux sound on RUclips
Don't think you can legally ride in U.K or 250 watts motor.
You could set it to 250 watts if. Needed and limit the speed. Then unlock off-road. Although that’s probably a grey area
@HighVoltageKits great video. Uk law the motor can't exceed 250 watts output, I think.
What was the outcome for this bikes battery? What did you settle on?
It’s being built right now. Underframe. Hopefully an update pretty soon
Great videos dude ive order mine for my scott big john :)
Love it! Sounds awesome!
Did you pedal as well? If not, bad test.
I don’t understand. You can’t pedal a Sur Ron.
@HighVoltageKits the bbshd, I believe it wouldn't be a fair test if the bbshd wasn't pedalled from cold start. Surron hasn't got pedals, bbshd has. So for true speed, you have to utilise the entire power available for each bike. Since sur hasn't got pedals, it could potentially be equal.
@jakebaked5996 Ahh ok I understand. In this case though it’s a modified bbshd so the speed at the crank is about three times peddle speed under throttle. It’s not like with a stock motor.
@HighVoltageKits OK, I also see what you mean. Though I feel extra pedal power might have given you an advantage still. Everyone trying to de restrict theirs and there's me trying to tune mine down to appear legal power for UK roads.
Drive chain on the left for diy is actually really good idea. If something goes bad on either side of the bike, the other side is still functional and will bring you back home. I am assuming the rear tire is still easy to remove for flats.
Very easy to remove which is good cause I just got one lol!
batterietest wasn't very well made, because the battery was still recovering from the uphill ride and u even had used power at the moment it dropped to 81,3... but still very nice concept, will follow this.
Tough crowd. Carry on, Sir.
Sounds good! Hopefully the end product will be good
I bought a Shengmilo M80 from new years ago that came with a second battery. I used a plain converter socket to allow them to connect in parallel instead of having to disconnect one before connecting the other. They are permanently connected together & charged as one battery. The result is a far more stable Voltage & power when ridden & lower amps coming from each so likely a longer lifespan. If I was to change the hub motor for something bigger then that would be a very different story, as stresses would increase. As it is, stresses have only decreased & I have every confidence that the bike & batteries will give me many more miles of reliable service. Problems are more likely the result of overstressing components.
Make it water cooled with a computer radiator
Everyone likes new toys. Whatever makes the ride more enjoyable is a win.
I’ll see how it goes and holds up. Cheers Tim
Nice idea….but for that reason we have the smartphone, much smaller, and smarter 👍🏻 ( indeed no double camera to record, but…that’s a bit too much for me ) All the best 🤗 Waiting to see some full suspension conversions here 🫶
I don’t like clipping my phone on there. It’s free so I’ll see how it goes. Cheers
*Why* would you do this? Even more cable-madness and you got a device that can do everything just in your pocket...
Partly cause they asked me to try it. I don’t like using my phone on the bike though. The wiring is going to be very much hidden though.
What type of comment is this ? He’s done this because he wants to. Makes a good video too

It’s been lovely so far! Fingers crossed. I’ll be in Wales for a fair bit by the coast. I came prepared though! Cheers
@@HighVoltageKits glad your enjoying it, hoping it holds out for you.
Thanks Sean
Can this work with bafang like see volts and watts with speed?
I’m not sure the extent to which apps will work. But potentially although the eggrider does this already. I’ll go over what apps I can use in future videos.
Awesome setup.
Thanks Nick, appreciated!
Well thought through build! I'm looking forward to see how full suspension one is going to look like. Two things that would be my concerns are pedal spacing and lack of torque sensor.
Thanks. Pedal spacing is a bit wide but about on par with my fat bike. Should have full suspension news later next month
The savings when buying as a kit are tempting. I have enough projects as is.
I know that one lol
Building something like this is no easy task this bike is very inspriational to what i wanna do one day
Great work to all involved!!
Cheers Gizmo!
Looks nice, definitely something worth considering as an upgrade for the M620. Though i really dont care to pedal unless its at walking pace, im a heavy offroading type of guy, as well as commute
220mm rotor on the rear is rather extreme! I cannot reach the limits of my 180mm and a similar weight setup.
It’s needed in some way due to the combined sprocket. I have barely touched it. The regen is pretty good
Well done lad's, that looks like a really nice ride and well put together. If I had the funds I'd buy one in a heart beat.
Cheers Tim! Get saving mate
Definitely on my list, just get that dual suspension. What a awesome bike!
Should be news next month. Cheers
@HighVoltageKits I would love to add this motor to something like the Arc Hero or Arc Nemesis, Even a Ristretto 512 or a Meelod DK300, and add a second battery or something similar to what the Aniioki can do in riding long distances. I'm in the US and they are building bike paths that are 50 to 100 miles all over the US so having range is important to me. Hopefully, soon we will get smaller long-range batteries with fast charging and much cheaper to produce. As for riding speed, I like the idea that I can get up to speed if needed and keep a constant speed when going up a steep hill but most of the time I go at average Ebike speeds enjoying the beautiful countryside. Excellent suspension and a comfortable seat should be number 1 for those who like long-distance travel. Way too many e-bikes are being hashed out and all are all the same nothing special lacking in good suspension a comfortable seat and maybe a slightly different look. Why is this? Why wouldn't they focus on comfort I don't know and the person runs out looking for a replacement seat or upgraded the suspension so it's not bottoming out. I'm better off buying a quality frame and getting my parts to build a good all-around bike right from the start!
Can you build another one and send it to the uk please 🙏🏼
Yeah if you have the funds!
Where is the Specialised Big Hit build?
Ahhh I just met up with my mate. He is building a 72 volt pack but a wedding side tracked things. Selfish git lol. Hopefully we will be out riding soon!
How much does it weigh?
Good point. I’ll have to get the scales out!
The prototype with battery weighed in at 69lbs of love!
BADASS friend, I know you are busy I thank you but can U tell me how to get the motor for the 3 wheeler the rear it looks like the old Schwinns no one side thank you again for your help

What kickstand did you use? How did it fit in between the Bbshd?
I’m not 100% sure this was a featured bike rather than one I did myself. I think they are called centre kick stands
With that chain ring and rear cog setup. Is that gear ratio any good for hill climbing torque?
Yeah it’s pretty damn good. At least with the power and rpm on this setup. If you go much lower it will just want to pop a wheelie
Really grateful to find this channel as every other video seems like shameless marketing. I am pleading you for the update video that you said you’d deliver. Pretty please. I own a car and don’t have the time/skills to mod a bike and this seems like the best option for what I want from an e-bike. Seems clear the brakes are the biggest concern but I would love to know how the battery and motor have lasted. Thank you.
I can’t do one that quick as I’m going on my hold. The brakes annoyed me tho so I replaced with Tektro quad pistons. Much much better. My wife has been using it everyday and likes it though.

Excellent comparison. I see a comment here indicating the DM02 is louder than the Photon. That would be another point to the Photon. A big chunk of the DIY crowd doesn't care about noise, but those of us that do care, really care. I would love for someone to make make a noise comparison. I have a Photon, but no access to either Toseven motor. But I would consider the Photon much louder than my BBSHD, and kind of at the peak of what is tolerable to me.
I modified my dmo2. So it’s not really representative. I don’t think either motor are that noticeable when riding. It’s not louder than a bbshd. When I get my Photon fixed I might try and get a decibel meter.
Thanks for this informative comparison ! What about the sound/noise difference between theses motors ?
Not much difference. The Photon a bit higher pitch maybe but in terms of loudness very similar
Excellent video and narration as always! Always informative. Only question I have is, what is this discord you talk about and how do I access it?
Thanks Lenny. It’s a chat app with forum style rooms dedicated to light electric vehicles. The join link is in the description.
Photon is too expensive! If you include shipping cost + VAT + duty then it costs ~1200 euro! That's insane for chinese motor! For example german Bosch/Brose motors cost less than 1000 euro. I do not consider a photon a DIY motor if you cant easily replace faulty parts at home. You should make an updated video with latest firmware installed in DM02.
I am looking forward to trying the new firmware. Lots of people have told me it’s much better.
What cable did they use with the throttle box? I'm trying to build regen brake lever. I'm going to use a stunt bike clutch lever and old stock sur ron throttle box. But I'm having trouble finding a cable that will work with this. It's a weird cable with the same ends.
Shoot me an email and I can send you photos of what I have. I can probably sent you a cable box as I have a bunch of them. I think I was going to splice something on to work with a lever.
John@highvoltagekits.com
What an excellent comparison review. Given your analysis I favour the DM02. The need to dealer service the Photon is indeed a dealbreaker for me plus the DM02 seems better value for the money. I do not stress my eBike motors batteries and controllers and if anything prefer a system that allows just 50 or so watts with bursts of 250 for steep hills as more than 50 watts for me and my riding conditions means I can’t get my heart rate up enough.
Thanks. Sounds like the DM02 will do what you are looking for. Cheers
Size wise, is the DM01 larger, smaller or same size as the BBS02? Thanks, great video!
It’s a little bit larger. About the same as the bbshd
I have a noob question. Forgive me if this is not the right forum, but I'm having trouble finding reliable advice on these after-market motors. I've ridden bikes with mid-drive motors but no throttle, and bikes with hub motors that include a throttle option. So how does a throttle work with these mid-drive motors you are testing? Does the motor have an automatic clutch or something, and turns the chain independently of the crank? Or do the cranks turn when you've got the throttle open, and you have to spin your legs with your feet on the pedals but without using your own muscle power? Seems like the latter would be...a robot-fixie kind of experience.
There is a sprag clutch built it so the pedals only rotate when you pedal or push the bike backwards. The cranks would be pretty lethal without
Excellent video as usual. You really do have a good "radio voice" , calm, clear, easy to understand, and you have laid out the comparisons well. The back ground sound on parts of the video did make it a bit hard for me to hear your voice in some places. I'm on the fence between the two motors, and your fair and balanced comparison, hasn't made it any easier, but that is a good thing. It seems to me that if I was going to up date the firmware on the DM02, I'd have to spend $1000 to buy a windows computer, which negates any cost advantage. Anyway, thanks again, keep up the good work.
Thanks bill appreciate the kind words. Best of luck with your decision! Cheers
Don't see how you need a $1000 computer to run a few files... Sure a slow laptop with fagged battery from the sidewalk would do fine if you had the charging chord
Good to know I can use a hammer on the Toseven crank tool, my DM01 came loose and dented my frame, been having trouble keeping it still. I'll torque it with some hammer taps next time
Hit the shaft tho not the tool head
@@HighVoltageKits got it, thank you!
Do you think Lekkie cranks would help with the Q factor of the Dmo2?
Possibly. The latest dm02s have improved cranks apparently so might not be needed. I have requested some to try out.
Another balanced, thoughtful and informative vid, thanks the Team @HV. After 10 months of DM02 ownership and only doing 1600kms and having about 50% downtime... Some due to the early firmware and controller similar to you, some due to me - a constantly learning DYIer - some due to family commitments and some due to battery, I remain very happy with my DM02. I have a working TSDZ2 in a box in my shed. I pulled it out while having DM02 controller/firmware troubles and it probably won't come out again. The DM02 delivers more power for similar watts and battery use. I noticed you did not mention the return to Eco/City/Sport modes... To7 have 3 firmware releases, with an extra range of options called E-ASSIST, since the M1/M2 firmware and each is a substantial improvement of the previous. The E-Assist seems to dial the the torque sensing up or down (as you say, some communication/directions from To7 would be nice) and a few of us in the HV discord are comparing notes. I commute by e-bike down and up 500m daily and am really enjoying my DM02 with a decent quality Samsung 50s cell battery. From now, for the average DIYer with a reasonable quality 'shed bike' I consider the DM02 excellent value for money and probably more assistance than most people need. Of course, want is something else again.😅0:14 0:14
I’m a few firmware updates in the past. They went back to eco sport etc. Great stuff. Feel free to link your videos Ian. Cheers
@@HighVoltageKits Thanks Cap'n', will do when I get the chance, to help this conversation along... starting to get a few theories about the E-Assist which I'll make a one-take-wonder for the programming side... dead of winter here so getting the opportunities with daylight, rain free moments and preparedness to make a 'ride' video are few and far between.

How can I get a 72v controller for the dmo1 can't find anyone who tunes an 855 for it sadly
I have I think the only one so far. We don’t have the torque sensor working though unfortunately. I’ll update on it next week.
@@HighVoltageKits please let us know when they are available for all of us I myself wouldn't mind toying with one but I still gotta get a dmo1 hopefully will have one in a month
Will do. Cheers
Thank you for the thorough comparison. A couple questions though: you say that the torque sensing is better with the photon, but how exactly? I've only had experience with cadence sensing so not sure what makes one torque sensor better than another. Also, the DM02 has the option to run in cadence sensing if you want, correct?
Yes you can turn off cadence sensing. In terms of the 85% it’s the feel of natural pedaling and responsiveness to pedal input.
@@HighVoltageKits Did you test with latest firmwmare from June?
Thanks for this much awaited comparison. You promised it some while back and have now delivered in spades! Your comprehensive coverage of the pros and cons of each motor speaks volumes re the depth of your knowledge and experience of them in terms of, fitting, using, adjusting and upgrading software. To me it all comes down to budget and whether the extra $700 for the photon's superior sophistication is value for money. My feeling is that it is not! I also think that if Toseven got their act together and fixed the weaknesses of the DM02, which you have identified, then they could kick the photon into touch yet still undercut cyc by $450. I hope the "average Joe" appreciates what they are getting from the expertise behind and the hard work put into your videos. Good on you Cap!
Cheers. They have an opportunity. Apparently The very latest firmware is a further improvement so I will try that later this year.
Photon is dramatically quieter. I think though a better comparison would be The DM01. It would win on power. For me and my customers, the value is in The DM02. Rare is my customer that can, much less will, take advantage of the differences.
If you are basing it on the footage here I modified it. So it’s not a good comparison noise wise. Although it is a bit louder than the photon. The photon would be equally loud at 12,000 rpm. It’s a good point on the customer. Most people would be very happy with a DM02 and I think that’s what they are going for.
No, I am talking stock. I've finally got several ToSeven in the field and a half dozen Photons. The Photon rivals The BBS02 for quiet. The DM02 is louder even than The TSDZ2 (sold a gross). My customer's just don't care. The DM01 is a lot quieter, but heavier, over powered and makes for a less attractive install. I do not consider The Photon a DIY'er motor. There are too many little things that can impact the quality and reliability of your install. Amazing product and perhaps The Rolls of kits, but probably not the motor one should choose for theor first install. The ToSeven motors are incredibly simple. I can now kick them out in about 2.5 hours including hiding all the wiring very well and customizing the settings. That's usually not enough time to top off their battery.
